67 per cent of podcast listeners found their favourite podcast after a recommendation from a friend, family or colleague according to The Podcast Host Survey.
Word of mouth still plays an incredible part of a podcast’s growth and popularity, with 43 per cent of the listeners asked answering they turn to social media or online communities when trying to discover new shows.
Only 6 per cent of users rely on browsing the podcast chart to find new content while 23 per cent will directly ask someone they know who has similar interests.
One of the BBC’s many podcast successes has been ‘The Peter Crouch Podcast’ which has actively encouraged listens to ‘Pass the Pod’ to their wider community.
Part of the podcast’s promotion has even seen the podcast sent to space.
